Electrochemical experiments on coatings always exhibit low, low currents because of the barrier effect of the coating. Measuring a low current reliably is much more challenging than measuring a high current. To our knowledge, there is nothing better for coatings that the Reference 600 Potentiostat running the EIS300 Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Software. You can measure impedances as high as 1012 ohms with this system!
The PTC1 Paint Test Cell is an electrochemical cell designed for testing coatings with EIS

KARL DEUTSCH LEPTOSKOP devices can be used to determine the thickness of non-magnetic layers (e.g. paint) on ferromagnetic substrate by means of the magnet-inductive method. The second option is to determine the thickness of non-conductive layers covering non-ferrous base materials utilizing the eddy-current method.
KARL DEUTSCH offers instruments which are suitable for the magnet-inductive method only (2021) as well as instruments only suitable for the eddy-current method (2018). In addition, a third selection of instruments provide probes (2026 / 2041 / 2050 / 2051) for both methods.
